The major international conference aimed to present the achievements of Norwegian Wood and to discuss these both in the context of international standards for modern sustainable timber architecture and the traditional timber architecture of Rogaland. The conference is aimed at architects, consultants, developers, contractors, planners, politicians and others involved in the building industry, both nationally and internationally.

MAIN CONFERENCE / HOVEDKONFERANSE
The theme for the main conference is Norwegian Wood and modern sustainable
timber architecture. We aim to inspire, review, evaluate, discuss and
critically reflect over the achievements that have been made in relation to
the targets which were set with regard to international standards for modern
sustainable timber constructions.

Six parallel seminars will discuss the Norwegian Wood building projects in relation to the themes of:

THEMATIC SEMINAR: USE OF TIMBER
– innovative, modern and sustainable architecture
The seminar discussed the range of challenges that the use of timber can present in large building projects. Through contributions from architects, engineers, manufacturers and contractors related to the Siriskjær project, issues was considered such as; timber as a sustainable material, timber as primary and secondary structure, fire engineering, facade solutions and co-ordination of the building processes.

FAGSEMINAR: ENERGI(only norwegian)
– enkle, robuste og langlivede løsninger
Seminaret presenterte utfordringer og energiløsninger i Norwegian Wood byggeprosjektene med særlig vekt på Egenes park og Marialunden: Hvilke energikonsepter og hvilke arkitektoniske konsepter / detaljløsninger har man valgt for å oppnå energieffektive løsninger? I programmet inngår også presentasjon av et FOU-prosjekt (SINTEF Byggforsk) som gjennomgår arbeidet med tetthetsløsninger i Jåtten Øst.

FAGSEMINAR: UNIVERSELL UTFORMING (only norwegian)
– fleksible, brukervennlige og varige løsninger
Med utgangspunkt i Norwegian Wood byggeprosjektene vil vi se nærmere på universell utforming i boliger. Hva skal til for å oppnå gode boligområder? Hvilke hensyn må tas på overordnet nivå og hvilke er viktige i detaljeringsfasen?

THEMATIC SEMINAR: DEVELOPING THE TIMBER CITY
This seminar examines the patterns and characteristics of the west of Norway’s historic timber buildings. Adaption to climate, building techniques and material use, external space and social issues are considered in more detail. How have the Norwegian Wood buildingprojects succeeded in maintaining and developing the best qualities within the west of Norway’s timber tradition?

FAGSEMINAR: MILJØVENNLIG MATERIALBRUK (only norwegian)
– er det lov å bruke helse- og miljøfarlige stoffer i Norge i dag?
En viktig del av arbeidet med miljøvennlig materialbruk i Norge i dag handler om å finne ut hva de enkelte byggematerialene faktisk inneholder. Seminaret vil formidle praktiske råd for materialvalg og erfaringer med innhenting av miljødeklarasjoner i Norwegian Wood og i Mikado-prosjektet.

FAGSEMINAR: KVALITETSPROGRAM (only norwegian)
– fra ide til ferdig prosjekt
Et kvalitetsprogram klargjør ambisjonsnivået for alle fag og faser i et byggeprosjekt. I seminaret formidles kunnskap om- og erfaringer fra bruk av kvalitetsprogram i Norwegian Wood prosjektet Siriskjær og i Storøya grendesenter i Bærum kommune.

EXHIBITIONS, EXCURSIONS AND GUIDED TOURS

As part of the conference, excursions and site visits was arranged to Norwegian Wood building projects, both completed and under construction. City tours was also be arranged around the timber city of Stavanger. A two day tour to Preikestolen Mountain lodge including a hike to the pulpit and other social activities were also organized.
