In Fredrikstad, Mad architects have designed Nygaardsplassen, two commercial/residential brick buildings in the city center. The project references urban repair projects abroad, such as Blossom street in London, where new and old buildings are hard to distinguish. The traditional look and materials of Nygaardsplassen blends in with the surroundings and increases the significance of the historical building mass, encouraging the city to maintain and preserve those buildings as well.
